University of Memphis athletic director Tom Bowen today announced that head football coach Mike Norvell‘s contract has been extended through 2021. Concurrently, in a strong commitment to the entire football staff, the assistant coach and staff salary pool has increased by $250,000.
“This is a part of our continual commitment and support for Coach Norvell and his staff for the incredible work they do building our football program and leading our student-athletes,” said Bowen.
“Coach Norvell is one of the best coaches in America,” said UofM President Dr. Â M. David Rudd. “We’re thrilled with the progress he’s made in such a short time and look forward to many good years to come.”
Three of the Tigers key assistants (Wide Receivers coach: David Johnson,  Cornerbacks coach: Marcus Woodson & Offensive Line coach Ryan Silverfield were contacted by SEC teams this past winter. The larger salary pool helps Norvell retain these guys.
