Every young basketball athlete in Memphis, Tennessee is patiently waiting for the opportunity to play high school basketball this season. The Coronavirus has been a real bad nightmare for the Class of 2021 Seniors. It first started with football, and it’s slowly taking up the time for basketball season as well. The SCS school system has not come to a decision on a basketball season. There are other schools that are anticipating the chance to play.

Houston High School are one of the few who will have the opportunity to play soon. Houston has been known as a good basketball program in the recent years. Great players such as 6-foot-9 combo forward Mason Miller. The coaches son Mason is ranked in the ESPN Class of 2021 Top 100. Also throw in the mix 6-foot-2 combo guard TJ Madlock . Tj is one of the most underrated guards in the country. Last but not least is Zander Yates who is a 6-foot-7 combo forward with great shooting ability.

These seniors have helped build the Houston High School basketball program. They were on a magical run last season that got cut short. This season is a little different. There is a new Head Coach that so happens to be a Memphis hometown favorite in new Head Coach Mike Miller. Coach Miller gets a chance to coach his son for his senior year, and also his youngest son Maverick Miller. Since getting the job it’s been about business, and getting better. Losing senior Faizon Fields was a huge hit to the team. Faizon was a big factor for the Mustangs in the post.

We all knew coach Miller was going to bring some more talent in the building. Houston lost players and gained a Star in Jerrell Colbert. Who is a big addition at 6-foot-9, and already committed to the LSU Tiger’s. Colbert is also a Top 100 prospect in the Class of 2021. Some scouts believe he has the chance to be a NBA first round draft pick one day. So much is on the line for the Houston High Mustangs. It’s rare that so much talent and a big name coach is at a football school like Houston. The Mustangs are playing in competitive high level tournaments outside of Memphis coming soon. Coach Mike Miller has incorporated a winning attitude to these young men. They are currently the Pre Season favorites in AAA District Basketball.

Hopefully we a chance to see the Mustangs put on a great show.
